Why is there a four-lane ridge over the Thames River near Mohegan, obviously built long before the casino was thought of?

This one appears to be tailor-made for Mohegan Sun access. Of course, it was built long before they arrived. It just shows that they were pretty bright when deciding where on their land to put the casino (Foxwoods, although MUCH bigger, has nowhere near this kind of access...)

The first picture, with the wingtip showing and a view of the bridge, is facing south.
